    About Seeknit

Seeknit are a range of the finest Japanese ‘moso bamboo’ knitting needles and accessories made by Kinki Amibari based in Nara, Japan since 1916.

The philosophy of Seeknit is to contribute to the world's knitting culture while helping enrich people's minds.

    Why bamboo?

Bamboo is a strong, durable and renewable material that has been loved by knitters for centuries.

Depending upon where it is grown, bamboo is different in nature.

Seeknit use bamboo that is especially hard and resilient, reinforced by fibres called 'fibrovascular bundles' which gives it excellent lustre.

The shiny smooth surface - honed by skilled craftspeople - means Seeknit needles and hooks have a smooth surface, so stitches glide freely from one needle to the other without sticking or snagging.

    What is Shirotake?

Shirotake (pronounced Shir-o-také) is a product unique to Seeknit that allows you to enjoy the natural texture of 'moso bamboo’. Shirotake is softer than Koshitsu allowing you to enjoy the natural bounce of bamboo as you craft.

Shirotake is bamboo with less manufacturing than the Seeknit Koshitsu and is the bamboo needle with a light colour.

McIntosh is a boutique hand-dyed wool and haberdashery company based in London.
I’m James McIntosh, a one person business.
I hand-dye all the wools to order and personally pack every knitting and crochet item sold and send them to McIntosh customers all over the world - in plastic-free, 100% recyclable and FSC® certified packaging - naturally.
