LANGYARNS Sizing & Fit Guide
LANGYARNS patterns are sized using body measurements, not finished garment measurements. This means you choose your size based on your own body (or that of the person you are knitting for) — such as bust, chest, hips, or height — and the pattern itself then builds in the intended ease for a comfortable and well-balanced fit.
The finished garment measurements shown in each printed pattern schematic already include ease. The amount of ease varies depending on the design, from neat and close-fitting styles to more relaxed or oversized silhouettes, and is an intentional part of the garment’s character.
How to choose the right size
For sweaters and cardigans, the most important reference point is the bust (ladies) or chest (men) measurement. For longer garments such as coats, jackets, dresses, or trousers, hip measurements may also be taken into account.
Children’s and baby patterns are sized primarily by height, with age provided as guidance only.
Each LANGYARNS Pattern Bundle from McIntosh includes the correct amount of yarn for your chosen size, calculated using LANGYARNS’ official consumption data. This removes uncertainty and ensures you have exactly what you need for your project.
Ladies sizing (standard height 168 cm)

A gentle note on fit
- Your individual knitting tension
- Needle choice
- The fibre characteristics of the yarn
- How you prefer your garments to fit
For the best possible result, it is always recommended to knit a tension square before starting, particularly for fitted garments.
