Honeymoon Knitting, Day 5
Honeymoon Knitting, Day 5: Leipzig to Karlsruhe (via Frankfurt & the Black Forest)
Six Hours, Countless Stitches
Wednesday dawned with the longest journey of the honeymoon: a six-hour train ride from Leipzig to Frankfurt. Some couples would pack books or snacks. James packed extra stitch markers and Addi Click Olivewood. Out came the McIntosh #1 jumper in PROMISE by WOOLADDICTS (LANGYARNS), and the rows began to fly by.
Dr Thomas checked the timetable. James checked his stitch count. Both declared victory.
Frankfurt: Home Turf for Dr T
Arriving in Frankfurt felt like a homecoming for Dr Thomas. He pointed out landmarks with pride, while James politely nodded—his real attention firmly fixed on the yoke increases. (Priorities, darling.) Still, there was a sense of romance in knitting in the very city where Dr T grew up. PROMISE yarn, Swiss quality, now had German stitches embedded in its story.
Auntie Gaby & the Black Forest
From Frankfurt, it was on to Karlsruhe to meet Thomas' Auntie Gaby. A whirlwind of hugs, stories, and plates of Black Forest gateau followed. Knitting in the Black Forest had a magical quality—perhaps it was the cake, perhaps the folklore, or perhaps just the joy of family mixed with wool.
James knit on a few more rows while Gaby nodded approvingly. “Sehr schön,” she declared. High praise indeed.
