Honeymoon Knitting, Day 2
Honeymoon Knitting, Day 2: Brussels to Wuppertal (via Cologne & the Schwebebahn)
From Brussels to Cologne
By midday the newlyweds were waving farewell to Brussels, yarn carefully packed (and slightly spilling from James’s bag). On the train to Cologne, the LANGYARNS SuperSoxx socks marched forward—row by row, heel by heel. Knitting socks on a fast-moving German train is oddly satisfying; the rhythm of the needles feels perfectly timed with the click-clack of the tracks.
Dr Thomas, meanwhile, was distracted by German efficiency. James was distracted by stitch count.
The Wuppertal Schwebebahn
After a quick change in Cologne, the adventure continued to Wuppertal, home of the famous Schwebebahn—a suspended monorail James had dreamt of riding for years. It dangled gracefully above the river, a knitting-friendly rollercoaster. James, project bag on his lap, whispered: “This is better than Disneyland”.
Some honeymooners have matching T-shirts. James gave Thomas another ball of LANG SUPER SOXX sock yarn.
Beer Keller Hospitality
At Wuppertal station, the couple were greeted by Anne-Marie from Addi, who whisked them off to Addi's Mystic Marc’s home. Marc opened his at home beer keller for the evening and sang and crocheted why James knit and Thomas and Anne-Marie chatted. Between schnitzel platters and glasses clinking, James somehow managed a few rounds on his socks without frogging anything. That, in itself, is a miracle worth blogging about. Perhaps it was the Addi Mystic DPN's that did the trick?
Knitting tip of the day: Belgian beer and Swiss yarn pair surprisingly well in a Mystic way.
Tomorrow: The Addi Factory
Day three promises the big moment: the Addi factory tour in Altena. Claudia (Addi’s owner) awaits, Unicorn needle tips are gleaming, and James’s socks are inching closer to their toes. But for tonight, the needles rest—full, happy, and slightly tipsy in Wuppertal.
