Relikt by Schoppel – A Second Life for Zauberballs
Some yarns arrive perfectly planned. Others are shaped by what remains. Relikt belongs to the latter — a yarn created not from excess, but from intention.
Relikt is made from the leftover lengths of Zauberball and Zauberball Crazy during production. These aren’t scraps in the careless sense, but beautiful, colour-rich ends that are simply too short to become a full ball on their own. Rather than discarding them, Schoppel brings these fragments together and gives them a new purpose.
Through a felted-spun process, the different lengths are gently bound into a single, stable strand. The colours aren’t forced into uniformity; they’re allowed to sit alongside one another, creating a yarn that feels layered, painterly and quietly expressive. Each ball carries echoes of many colour journeys, which means no two are ever the same.
Knitted up, Relikt feels soft and calm but full of subtle surprises. It’s a yarn that asks for space and simplicity — scarves, shawls and unfussy garments suit it beautifully.
What makes Relikt special isn’t just how it looks, but what it represents. It’s Schoppel’s way of honouring the material, of treating colour and fibre as something worth carrying forward rather than discarding. Sustainability here isn’t loud or performative — it’s thoughtful, practical and deeply respectful.
The McIntosh View
Relikt is a yarn with memory. Born from Zauberballs, it gathers past journeys into one present moment on your needles. It’s not about perfection or predictability, but about meaning — and that makes it quietly wonderful to knit.
