I’ll be blunt: I enjoy a yarn that looks and feels luxurious but actually fits into everyday life. Lang Yarns CARPE DIEM is one of those finds — a premium alpaca–merino fusion that manages to feel both cosy and refined. I sampled a ball and knitted a simple crew-neck jumper in stocking stitch to see how it behaved, and the results were, frankly, delightful.

How it knitted up
Casting on for a plain stocking-stitch jumper, the yarn felt plush and slightly lofty under the needles. At 6.0 mm the fabric grew quickly and produced a substantial, warm cloth with pleasing stitch definition — the merino kept the finish refined, while the alpaca gave the body and that modern, slightly brushed halo. The stitches slid comfortably; I found the rhythm steady and relaxing for longer sessions.

Wearability and projects
CARPE DIEM makes statement jumpers, chunky cardigans and quick projects feel considered rather than bulky. Because of its volume, it’s ideal for bold-gauge garments or any piece where presence matters: a neat crew-neck, a roomy cardigan, or an oversized scarf. It’s less suitable for delicate lace, very fine garments or summer weight items.

Care and longevity
One of the yarn’s best practical points is machine washability (30°C) — it brings premium yarn into everyday wardrobes.
