HOW TO RAGLAN - Free Knitting Pattern

A cosy top-down raglan sweater with a folded collar, relaxed fit, and step-by-step video support.

Knit your own everyday favourite with the HOW TO RAGLAN, designed by Kim May Büchel (@letitbeknit) for LANGYARNS.

Worked from the top down, this sweater begins with a cosy folded collar, followed by a raglan yoke. The sleeve stitches are then placed on hold while you knit the body, before returning to complete each sleeve in the round. Stocking stitch keeps the main fabric simple, with knit 1, purl 1 rib at the hem and cuffs.

Choose LANGYARNS CLOUD or PROMISE from WOOLADDICTS by LANGYARNS to create your sweater. The pattern includes six sizes, with finished bust circumferences of approximately 90–160cm, and is designed to be worn with 10–20cm of positive ease.

A video tutorial accompanies the pattern, with support for techniques including Magic Loop.

Why We Love It

The folded collar, relaxed shape, and simple stocking stitch make this a cosy sweater to reach for again and again. Ribbed cuffs and hem give it a neat finish, while the raglan shaping creates a clean shoulder line.

Working from the top down lets you try on your sweater as you go and adjust the body length to suit your style. With detailed written instructions and video support, it’s a lovely opportunity to explore raglan construction.

Step-by-Step Video Tutorial

Please Note

This is a digital knitting pattern download, not a finished sweater. You will need yarn, needles, and knitting notions to complete the project.

The collar, beginning of the yoke, and sleeves use the Magic Loop technique with the longer circular needles. If you prefer, you can use additional 40cm circular needles in the appropriate sizes for these smaller circumferences.

Knit a tension swatch before you begin, and choose your size using the finished bust measurements and your preferred amount of ease.
