Last week, I showed you a lovely photo of my office window.
This week… it’s had a full glow-up.
Same window. New personality.
Very UPVC chic.
Peckham (the posh part) is now double-glazed and, frankly, emotionally secure.
Now, while the end result is all calm and quiet luxury, the process was less Grand Designs and more forensic clean-up.
Dust sheets. Plastic tunnels. Poles everywhere.
At one point the flat looked like we were either hiding something… or investigating it.
If someone from CSI had turned up and said,
“Sir, the issue is 125 years of Victorian dust,”
I’d have handed them a mop and said, “Crack on.”
Because here’s the truth:
Remove a window in a 1901 building…
and the house fights back.
Dust. Mortar.
A sort of historical grudge.
All of it… lands on your carpet, somehow gets into the shower...
We had a routine:
Clean a room. Hoover. Polish. Feel smug.
Wake up…
…and it looked like the Sahara had stayed the night.
Hopeless.
And yet—miraculously—every McIntosh order still went out on time.
At one point I was packing yarn inside what can only be described as a plastic cocoon,
while Dr Thomas calmly announced:
“I’m fairly sure there’s a 3mm crochet hook behind the sofa.”
We don’t lose things.
We curate them.
And we don't let hubby know where we put everything....
But now…
The silence.
No helicopters.
No aircraft on the approach to Heathrow.
No late-night street philosophers outside.
Just… peace.
And warmth.
(Slightly ironic, as Peckham is currently hotter than Ibiza.)
Now—important matters.
🧦 Football Socks (the leaderboard)
You’ve been busy. Very busy.
And I can now confirm:
France is winning.
France.
Meanwhile, Dr Thomas is patiently awaiting his German pair:
Black cuff ✔️
Red stripe ✔️
Yellow… nearly there ✔️
Heel turn pending. Spirits high.
Inside every ball of LANG FOOTBALLSOXX is a QR code linking to a free sock pattern from the clever people at LANGYARNS.
Different sizes.
Simple to follow.
No drama.
Just socks behaving properly both the same.
Socks available below...
🧶 This week’s favourites
The Seeknit sets are flying—thank you.
Beautiful tools, going to very good homes.
👶 And then… babies
This week belongs to babies.
Tiny knits. Soft yarns. Big feelings.
So—I’ve created a baby section:
Natural fibres. Washable. Sensible (for once).
Featuring beautiful cottons and merinos from LANGYARNS
and the ever-popular Mille Colori Baby—soft, colourful, and slightly addictive.
🌱 Courtyard update
Dr Thomas is on-call in the hospital this weekend.
I am at home… attempting to revive some geraniums that did not survive The Window Event of 2026.
It’s not looking promising.
So, dear Reader…
What are you knitting this week?
What do you want to see in the shop?
Because McIntosh isn’t just me, a hoover, and 125 years of dust—
It’s the Clan. All of you.
And if you want it… I’ll find it.

James McIntosh – the one man band that is McIntosh (with Dr Thomas who has let me to clean up the dust.)
