Chaos, crochet hooks & a hole in the wall
The sun is shining.
The birds are doing their thing.
James and Dr Thomas are… happy.
…but also mildly panicking.
So, buckle up—change is coming.
We live in Peckham (the posh part), in a rather grand 1901 mansion block built for policemen. Which explains the hallway—60 feet (18.3 metres) long. I call it my cat walk.
I look at it and think:
“How many shelves for knitting needles could we fit?”
Dr Thomas looks at it and thinks:
“Where can I hang calming Bavarian landscapes?”
We are not the same.
Now—the big news.
We are getting double glazing.
After one winter too many in what can only be described as a Victorian fridge, the windows finally arrive… tomorrow.
Four days of installation.
Four days of dust.
Four days of me wondering if dispatch can happen from a windowsill.
Concerns include:
The neighbours
What will they say?
(Not that I care. Obviously. Completely unbothered.)
We chose very nice UPVC because the wooden ones were going ot be over £60,000!!!
At that point I did briefly consider knitting some instead.
The flat
Dr Thomas has entered full pre-builder preparation mode.
Everything is moved.
Everything is upside down.
It looks like a yarn shop lost a fight with a hurricane.
At dinner last night, he said:
“If you need a 2.25mm stainless steel crochet hook, James will know exactly where it is—even now.”
And he’s right.
There are over 60,000 items in this flat, and I can still find a circular needle faster than I can find my own socks.
Before I go—we must cut the hedge.
It’s gone fluffy.
Which, in our street, is a community event.
Out come the neighbours.
Out come the chats.
Out comes the quiet judging.
Business as usual (ish):
Orders are still going out every day.
I’ll just be… nomadic.
Today: office.
Tomorrow: kitchen.
By midweek: somewhere under yarn, still dispatching like a hero.
At 8:30am tomorrow: hole in wall.
By 11:00am: new windows.
What could possibly go wrong?
Now—the good bit.
You loved the KnitPro leather bags so much I’ve ordered 30 more.
Cognac and black. Absolutely beautiful. Slightly “I own a grand piano” energy.

And then… something rather special.
We’ve been selling Seeknit for a while—but they’ve outdone themselves.
The Curve.
Hardened bamboo.
Interchangeable.
And the joins…
They don’t connect—they glide.
I picked one up and thought,
“Well. That’s knitting sorted forever.”
👇 Hit the green button and see for yourself.
Right—I'll leave you with this.
Enjoy the photo above: the “before” windows.
The “after” will follow (clean, I assume… though I didn’t clean them first—why would you? My mother would be horrified).
Have a wonderful week.
And as always…
LIVE life in COLOUR.
