Honeymoon Knitting, Day 3: The Addi Factory Tour in Altena

Socks Before Sunrise

James woke up in Altena with two things on his mind: coffee and socks. Before the factory tour even began, the LANGYARNS Footprints were out of the project bag. A few quiet rounds soothed the pre-tour nerves. After all, today wasn’t just about sightseeing—it was about meeting the makers behind the needles.

Meeting Claudia & the Addi Team

At the Addi headquarters, James and Dr Thomas were greeted by Claudia, Addi’s owner, with her signature warmth and enthusiasm. Walking the factory floor felt like entering a knitter’s cathedral: machines humming, artisans polishing, and racks of future Unicorn needle tips gleaming like jewellery.

Dr Thomas admired the engineering. James admired the Olivewood Click sets. Both agreed: this was romance, German style due to the ADDI famous heart.

Dinner with Norman

Later that evening, the couple joined Norman, Addi’s sales director, for dinner. Between conversations about needle innovation and the quirks of international shipping, James found the perfect moment to reveal the real reason for this trip: the cast-on of McIntosh #1.

The First Stitches of McIntosh #1

With PROMISE by WOOLADDICTS from LANGYARNS on the table, James finally cast on. The curse had been broken, thanks to the ADDI Unicorn. The honeymoon jumper was alive, and the very first rows of McIntosh #1 were worked in the shadow of the Addi factory itself.

Dr Thomas looked smug. “Fifteen years,” he said, “and it was worth the wait.”
