Honeymoon Knitting, Day 7: Ulm to Augsburg (Friends, Fibre & Website Fixes)

Train Knitting to Augsburg

Friday’s journey was a shorter hop from Ulm to Augsburg, which meant one thing: the need to maximise prime knitting time. The McIntosh #1 jumper in PROMISE by WOOLADDICTS (LANGYARNS) had become a faithful travel companion, growing heavier in James’s lap as the body inched onward.

German trains, James decided, are practically designed for knitters: wide windows, steady tracks, and the occasional passenger giving a nod of approval to a man knitting in public.

Friends & Fibre

In Augsburg, James and Dr Thomas were welcomed by Alan and Markus friends of old and the Best Men at their wedding. Alan, who also helps with the McIntosh website, was quickly roped into a lively conversation about SEO, Shopify collections, and whether schnitzel should ever appear in meta descriptions never mind why such a regional food was found by James in Northern Germany?  Markus, in true Bavarian style provided the beer. James provided the knitting. Dr Thomas checked his blood pressure. Everyone had their specialty.

Knitting as Community

The evening was filled with laughter, food, and stitches. For James, it was a reminder that knitting is never just about yarn—it’s about people. PROMISE yarn connected Switzerland to Germany, stitches to stories, and friends to one another. The McIntosh #1 jumper was becoming more than a garment; it was a record of community, travel, and love and how it all clicks together.
